    even before changes wvw was most toxic elitist place and changes made it even worse. 1 of reasons there were even little new blood playing wvw because you are forced to go there if you want craft legendary. pvp is optional same with raids etc, but not wvw. This is my own opinion is that zerging in any game mode is brain dead boring and there is reason why over 50% is sleeping in those things.

    A lot of problems which you are taking about are easy solveable by community.. But there are problems which are not solveable because game don't let us. I am so sad you didn't adressed biggest issue which I am (as wvw daily player) facing every single day. Talking about composition. Doesn't matter if there are new/experienced commanders or new/experienced players. If you have wrong composition its not fun for anybody. Experienced players have no problem to switch role for help the group. But we can't if there is often big queue. Just let us swap characters without queue and game mode will be so much fun for everybody.

    Im a pve pvp player and you just straight up cant get into wvw as you can engage with pve or pvp. You go into pvp lobby press the q button and you are in. WvW i join a map nothing is going on no commander or well commanders that hide there tag cause they just play with there own group so no one is welcome. Then well you need different gear cause otherwise you get fucked over by the wvw players with the correct armor. So basically you join a map no commander is up you decide to solo roam maybe then you engage the first player which kills you instantly cause with you gear you just cant fight back. Well then you spawn again and start walking around just to have the same experience.

    Another post: before the WR disaster, there were SOME servers that did events on weekends to introduce new commanders or to get female players into commanding. With WR this one was killed as well. WR = one of the dumbest decisions ANET made. In the same top category as STEALTH and EOD specs.

    lets be real, if game mode would be any good - none of this billshittery about tagging or having build/guild would even matter, the sheer amount of ppl and interest in game mode would solve everything naturally. And where's semi pvp there'es always a friction. Remove either pve component or pvp component therefore those two wont clash.

    Doing away with servers was a big mistake. I said it on the forum before and got poopooed for it. But the vocal minority there won and now what we got? Random idiots. No server pride. Nothing. Bring back servers. And revert the changes to defending. At this point it is pointless to try to defend unless it is blob v blob. Which is idiotic. It takes away fun, it takes away playstyles. They have no clue about wvw and every week, every decision is showing it.

    Matchups are a total shit show now. It seems some guilds are targeting certain brackets to just stomp people or you have teams that are so big you cant do shit even if they arent all that good. 2 weeks ago we were agins wsr and other "funny" people, saturday was a constant stomp and losing gari and all the rest in ebg ewry 30 min for like half day. Organized guilds form my side saw the machup and newer showed in ebg just to avoid "funny people"... edit. Many of romers or sudo solo wvw/pve fags think that comandig will make some monumental difference but it wont if you dont have the comp, dont have the numbers, dont have the expirienc players doing right things. Comander is like 25% of sukces at most... Other players make the rest.

    Mirror of Lyssa that wrecked everyone in T4 last week is comprised of loads of little guilds - that seems to be a big advantage as there's always small willing groups taking camps or objectives on weakly defended maps.

    Sneb, I feel you about being a new commander. You're doing it the right way; it just takes a loooong time to build up a group that will trust you. You need an understanding guild and a strong commander to mentor you and who supports you while you're tagging. It's okay that people log off when you take the tag. It's just part of it. Pugmanding during off-hours with an open tag will get your name out there as a comm that is at least trying. Stay strong! Also, the trolls are a minority. They're just a loud minority. 😣

    Depends what you mean 'get into'. First, anet's hook to get new players into wvw is the legendary starter kit. YOU NEED WVW for this. But, to somehow find wvw fun? Very hard for me. To find a guild that does amazing wvw zergs and who help you make excellent progression on reward tracks that you need? Not too hard. BUT "zerg/die/run back" is not that engaging and I only do it when I need a reward track filled up. TLDR; for some types of player, wvw is boring roaming, and boring in zerg, just boring. I don't think thats something anet can fix, its just the psychology of some kinds of people, like me.

    NO CONTENT (as things flip on map and swords "25+ people" appear on map) part of the problem is people auto running in maps that inflate the time zones. They could have also mixed it up by pairing EU and NA together randomly to fill in the down times.

    About the difficulty to get into WvW: there's a few factors that make up for the difficulty, and which of those impacts people more or less is entirely player-based. Generally speaking: getting into WvW IS indeed quite difficult for the average player. The dynamics are very complex, and just the fundamentals require a lot of time to get used to. You have entirely different balancing, and even within WvW itself you have multiple different "styles of play", ranging from solo-roaming to massive blobs, PPT vs PPK, and even in public tags (arguably the easiest of all modes to get into) just a different commander may make it easier or harder to learn stuff. Sure, it is VERY easy to enter the map (select a team, click the map, boom you´re in). But that doesn´t change anything about the issue that you´ll completely get destroyed basically immediately. The barrier of entry is not a physical barrier (as in, you gotta do a lot of stuff to unlock it), but partially a skill-, and ESPECIALLY a knowledge-barrier. Not knowing what you´re signing up for is a HUGE problem that kicks you right in the face almost immediately. The problem here is (as with basically all of the rest of the game): knowledge-transfer. Yes, it is easy to just hop on a borderland and do random stuff. But that doesn´t help you learning about all the different dynamics of WvW AT ALL. You NEED someone that helps you getting into the mode, teaching you the fundamentals, why stuff is played the way it is played, why you play certain builds in certain situations (and especially, why you DONT play certain builds in certain groups), what other ppl expect from you and so on. the game tells you NOTHING about it (and that´s fair, the game literally cannot handhold you into a competetive game-mode). And there lies one of the big problems: you NEED to socialize with veterans in order to obtain the knowledge. And this fact alone is a problem that affects basically every new player that has never stepped into WvW before (and to some extent, even regular players "have this problem"). That brings me to the next problem (imo the far worse one): players new to WvW in many cases either don´t realilze, or don´t respect that WvW is by definition a HIGHLY competetive game-mode. It´s not like open world, where whatever you do basically never impacts your allies negatively (sure you can grief other players in open world too), while in WvW almost everything you are able to do CAN impact a LOT of other people negatively (YES, even in, if not especially in, large scale combat). It doesn´t even matter if "impacting other players negatively" is done intentionally (actively griefing) or because you don´t know better. That´s a very big difference to Open world, and one of the reasons why imo WvW absolutely CANNOT be compared to open world! The next issue is (in my personal, very biased opinion): while knowledge-transfer is (as i already said) an issue, new players are FAR too PASSIVE for that matter. It is an absolute RARITY that a new player actually ASKS what´s going on, wants to know stuff. The experienced WvW-players literally cannot see "oh this guy is new, maybe i should explain a few things". WE DON'T KNOW that you just don´t know better if something goes wrong. Not even the world rank (which btw, is ONLY visible if you are in the same subgroup AND don´t have grid-view on) does indicate the experience of a player, since PPT and large-scale rewards drastically more EXP than roaming (and also, alt-accounts may be a thing). A LOT of problems that new players have (especially lack of knowledge and experience) could be prevented if new players would actually approach the veterans and ASK THEM what they should know about WvW. I NEVER experienced any commander that got asked about basics because the asking player was new becoming toxic, quite the opposite. If asked politely, a lot of commanders are actually happy to share knowledge (or rather, not only commanders, any experienced player usually does so) This also comes back around to the factor of "attitude". the main source of players that never engaged with WvW, is still the Gift of Battle. And that´s a problem, because a big chunk of those players go with the approach "imma do it because i MUST, and will never touch it again afterwards so i don´t care about anything". That´s a very passive-toxic attitude that hurts everyone, the players on their team, and even the "GoB-farmers" themselves. Subjectively speaking i would say, that we NEED something that REWARDS completely new players that come into WvW for engaging with the community, actively learning the dynamics of WvW and being "useful" to their team. But i honestly have no idea how you could achieve that, i´m actually quite sure that it is impossible to design a system that rewards new players to "learn how to WvW".

      The only knowledge transfer I need about wvw is how to maximise my reward track progression and participate in the zerg. I don't need to know very little about builds etc because everyone dies very very quickly anyway and just runs back over and over again until the reward track is filled up.

    that's so funny my friend and I were just saying that since world restructuring it's easier to find commanders 😂 this cracks me up because ppl were screaming for wr for years and now its ppl screaming its dead 😂😂😂😂 and no not having alliance isn't the reason it's bad because I see guilds just creating super guilds as pseudo alliance. honestly I think it just takes time for ppl to form the larger guilds and form the new schedules (i only started seeing my old servers guild scheduling raids in the alluance discord recently so its taking a while for ppl to settle in i guess). guilds who were on same server as before and like eachother already have formed alliance n large guilds, im not in one but I'm still in the server discord and I see organization and reworking the time coverage. anyone who only want to run with commanders they recognize wouldve joined the guilds already and anyone who didn't join a guild from their old server clearly don't want to (for example, me, as I didn't like the guilds on my old server) the language problem is interesting I dunno I am on NA server and there was one I think portugese...? speaking guild and I actually love running with that commander as they directed with the icons and maybe they also just had a good core group because we were winning all the guild fights (so no, not a ppt guild). maybe I just had a really unusual experience but language there at least wasn't an issue. end of the day I have no idea on the long run if it'll be good for wvw or not, but I do think it's hilarious how before wr all I see is ppl screaming about wr not here and wvw is dead because wr isnt here, then it comes and it's screaming wr is here n ruined everything 😂😂😂😂😂

    The problem I see is that you have 3 separate communities in WvW that are all at odds with each other: PvE players, PPT-focused players, and zerg players. * You have the PvE people who want to get in, get their GoB, and get out. They aren't going to care no matter what changes you make; they just want to PvE in WvW, and will be upset with any change that actually forces them to interact with the game mode in a real way. The other two groups would prefer to have them actually doing something of strategic value (either following a tag and providing actual boons/damage via a WvW build, or joining and listening to smaller groups that are trying to divide and conquer or PPT or what not), but they won't because they get more benefit by putting in the minimal effort to get the maximum reward, so why would they try. * You have the people who want PPT to matter. This group gets no benefit from the current state (since they'd prefer having a 20v20 matchup all the time than a 50v50 matchup for 3 hours a day and dead otherwise), but if you support them by making PPT matter the other two groups will complain due small scale areas like camps and towers being more contested (thus making it harder on the PvE people) and zergs being incentivized heavily away from doing their giant zerg v zerg fights (not to mention making it harder to get full zergs into the same map due to more roamers/small groups). * You have the zerg community that likes to do large scale 50v50(v50) fights. This community doesn't want PPT to matter, since it means that their preferred playstyle of zerg v zerg fighting is less important or viable, hence people actively throwing to try to prevent tiering up in multiple situations. You could see this by the way that NA Mag was treated by this group before restructuring for the cloud fighting style, or how they push to have playstyles that don't fit into the giant boonblob fighting gameplay nerfed (RISE necro for instance). PPT people prevent them from getting their zergs together and prevent giant fights, while PvE people with non-WvW builds just join and ruin the groups. Until and unless you can put in a change that makes at least 2 of these 3 groups happy, WvW will continue to be a shitshow. And I don't know how you do that honestly since the groups are so far from each other in many cases.

Otherwise you’re just juggling the favour of all 3 factions, kinda similar to making a game with 3 game modes of players that are somewhat opposed to each other, which they eventually decided to pursue PvE over competitive. They have kinda decided to sideline roamers at the very least.

      @@saxonknight0 At least with 3 game modes, they can (mostly) treat them independent of each other. Dev time and resource prioritization is a different story obviously, but making a change to PvE in 90% of situations doesn't directly impact WvW/PvP, and vice versa. But making a change to WvW that incentivizes zerging directly impacts the other two groups since they're more intertwined.

      interessting insight! Although i would say that pve players should not be catered to in wvw. Rather make players who exclusively go into wvw for rewards not go into wvw anymore. Instead it would be good if players go into wvw to play wvw. I think PPT play is what was wvw was meant to be with big fights happening as a consequence of ppt.

      www is a sh1tshow because its overdesigned mess for almost nobody 1. PvE players should stick to PvE. their opinion should matter nothing. 2. PPT gameplay should not exist. PPT gameplay loop is just equivalent of giving a low-attention span mental fr3aks some synthetic opi0ids.     Oddly, my HBL has been all roamers for the last 2-3 weeks. Guilds from my team don't want to waste their time at home because the other teams are running in 1-5 man groups. I think if someone wants to get right into commanding 20-30 man groups then joining a guild that provides training is the way to go. Build a name in the guild and you'll always have guildies willing to run with you. For a new com who doesn't want to do that they need to run 5-10 man pugs and focus smaller groups and safer objectives. Either way it takes time, there is no higher bar in WvW than leading successful 30 man squads. That should have a high barrier to entry.

    My question is, how is this game over a decade old and they still haven't figured out WvW? Been playing since release of the game and I've had several periods where I've played WvW a ton. I've basically given up on it due to the issues that it continues to have. It isn't fun to have a game mode where 22 hours of the day it is dead and you have to make sure you're on at peak times.

      This should have been the darker dlc and i felt like playing fucking sims 3 instead..They didnt hit the mark, I am sorry to say this. They didnt adapt to the nowadays gameplay standards,they just literally threw out blank unfinished story without satisfying ending .I have no idea what we have done for the world of nayos really,except some random ass demon named Peitha is now the queen,coz we helped her for what.     The ppl who implemented these changes for WvW simply don't get it when it comes to this stuff. How can you force ppl (even from the same guild) to team up and listen to the tag (if there's any), when about 60% of GW2 population is off EU and not everyone is fluent in english, let alone listen to someone speaking in that language. A lot of ppl across EU are joining random guilds simply because they aren't very keen to play only with their own kin. When you mix all these ppl into one big team becomes a mess. Also not everyone understands the rules nor the way WvW plays. Some ppl are there just for the stroll, tagging along and having fun. Now all this is gone because some ppl at anet are that arrogant. I do speak 3 languages so I had to chance to speak with some ppl not so good in english and they are frustrated, to say the least.

    One thing is still impressive though, and that is that WvW still exists. Very rare that a MMO game retains a pvp mode like this that's populated for this long. I think only ESO has that otherwise, for this kind of static battleground thing. I think that's easy to forget, it's obviously not wildly popular but there's still something impressive to it. Other than that I feel like this new thing is okay on paper, but maybe not the best for all regions. EU is so wide :P

      Lord of the Rings Online has a "similar" game mode. Called Player vs Monster player. Its a large, open world map with keeps and objectives to take. Its been around since 2007 so way before GW2. Anyways it has your typical blob vs blob fights with commanders that take over, and it has its 1v1 hang out spots etc.

    As someone playing since launch as a roamer, this sadly ruined wvw for me. There were phases, were I played gw2 daily and then I took a break for a couple months, so I never stuck with a guild, but wvw was always a community to come back to. It was always nice to see and talk with people you haven't seen in months get news on guilds that moved in and out, you meet new people but there is always nice to have some familiarty. People you know from years ago, you can rely on and know what they are capable of. This is now completely gone for me and the matches are pointless. There still is no real incentive to win so my motivation on that aspect is pretty low too. So sadly this completly ruined any interest I had wvw and with that the last aspect that kept getting me back into gw2. I genuenly hope that it pays of for the people that really enjoy the gamemode with their guilds though, and that they can have good fights.

      Have you thought about joining the tag alliance of mag roamers. What about joining a guild from your old server and setting that as your alliance guild to maintain that sense of continuity.

      @@gf8762 Thanks for the suggestion, but joining a guild is not something I'm comfortable with, mainly because I play very irregulary. So the wvw server was a great compromise for me because it allowed me to keep a sense of community without any commitments. It's just not something the game game offers me anymore and I'm not too bothered by it. If it helps wvw become a better gamemode for the majority I'm all for it. Just wanted to give my view on the subject because it resonated with what senb said at the start

We had our server discords and commanders were posting when they were coming on to lead on specific boarders right? Now... how do i know where to find organised commanders, and which discord do i go to? it's messed up

      @@akhsdenlew1861 assuming your still in all those guild discords you used to be in… just turn on the @(this is the role they ping for content) notifications and follow tags. Assuming, of course, that you joined an alliance with any of those guilds and didn’t just ignore/miss the new system implementation. That’s where I want some changes for ppl like me that participate across multiple guilds. A way to visibly see and distinguish alliances and then do some kind of vouch to join them. I don’t have enough guild slots so that kind of system would be awesome

    Just have to say, as someone who played wvw from day one, and same as gw2 as a whole, the same problems are brought up over and over and over again, year after year after year. For a studio that is so beloved they sure keep making the same mistakes and not fixing the constant problems for years. I love anet a lot, and the game itself together with its community helped me get over social anxiety and I grew up with it. But until the changes are made to the way people interact with the game, we will never be able to see that better place and what game could have been.

    I don't get whats so weird about being matched up with a random set of players as a solo. Has Snebzor never played a shooter? Thats literally every shooter. Also I think you guys are putting way too much stock in the community aspect of wvw. Like it certaintly is an important part, but the majority players I ever saw were pugs. Very few people knew who the idiot commanders raging in chat at each othere were. Plain and simple, WvW just isnt a rewarding experiencing for players that are reward focused. And especially people who are into fashion wars which is a huge part of the community. WvW isnt super profitable. You play for the experience more than anything, and frankly the experience isnt enough for people to commit themselves to hours of getting ganked, and taking 15 minutes to get back to the objectives.

      The weird part is that it's inherently somewhat competitive. You have the tryhards and mega casuals all in one place which causes extreme stomping. In shooters, there is often voice integration and people communicate. In wvw... That's not my experience. Wvw rewards are pretty good actually.

    As you pointed out. Spike of activity on reset and then DEAD. They messed up BIG time with this change. Different time zones + different language + imbalance all mixed up in one sh!t storm with this change. ( EU PoV) The WORST part there does not seem to be a sense of urgency from Anet AT ALL !

      WvW has always been like that though. At least NA. You had a couple of tags that would play what many know as “off-hours”. But the vast majority of content would be at reset. That’s when guilds that want to fight other guilds know there’s gonna be other guilds online that they can fight. Also the mix of time zones and languages has basically always been how it is. If you played from far Eastern Europe and picked, let’s just say, Devonahs rest, how are you in any different of a position than you were before? The server names are different but they are for all intents and purposes basically the same.

    You said you don't want to go into specific mechanics but that's really the part of the problem in the last Fractal releases. The main offense is that they rely on AoE on the ground design too much nowadays. The floor is filled with circles; we need to stand circles, we spread circles to avoid damage. And that connected to particular instabilities makes some of the encounters far from enjoyable - to put this in a really mild way. Silent Surf having Flux Bombs gives a pure clown show where you can't get closer to the boss and do longer and significant damage because something constantly pops under your feet. I'm playing for nearly 12 years and so do you and I dare to say that this fixation on floor position minigames should be really abandoned. But that probably won't happen because that's the easiest way for devs to provide mechanics in encounters. But floor filled with stuff is just half of the problem - the other is that most of it just a simple temporary unimaginative punishment. All this dancing among circles, lines could be used as part of the encounter's combat to player's advantage or change it: Surf's axes could remove archers, and blue lightning field in AH should remove that one stubborn CC bar on Mai's clone. But "the circles" isn't the single main offense here - bosses running around can be annoying as well, especially after so many years. There are already interesting encounters in the game that show devs can make something that doesn't just rely on slapping boss and looking if you didn't step onto something nasty. We have cannons in Silent Reef and we defend the ship with these, and there's carrying bags in maze - that is engaging and unique. Then there's Detha's path in AC which includes a really cool ghosts luring mechanics or TA Aetherblade elementals that require players truly working together. The already abandoned DRM instances have NPCs factions that do bring some small amount of uniqueness to these fights. And that's what should be included in the Fractals dungeons more: mechanics that require players to interact with objects, environment or perhaps even player's own slot skills, adapt party to the encounter. A temporary access to mounts, gliding, bundles could also bring some better quality to these instances.
